Staying around people that smoke will cause serious brain damage according to the World Health Organization (WHO). If you have never smoked before, the condition may be worse, if you expose yourself to other people’s tobacco smoke. Now according to a British study, exposing oneself to second-hand smoke has a negative effect on the capability of the brain and it will lead to damaging of memories.
The Result of the Research is as follows
The researchers compared a group of smokers with two groups of nonsmokers. Participants in one nonsmoking group were exposed to secondhand smoke either at home or in a “smoking area” for an average of 25 hours a week for an average of 4.5 years. Those in the other nonsmoking group were not routinely exposed to secondhand smoke.
Study participants from all three groups took a time-based memory test, which required them to perform a task after a set period of time. The also had to recall planned activities in an event-based memory test, which focuses on memory for future intentions.
Nonsmokers who were exposed to secondhand smoke forgot almost 20 percent more in the memory tests than the other nonsmoking group did, the study revealed.
Smokers performed the worst of all on the memory tests. They forgot 30 percent more than those who were not exposed to secondhand smoke.
With this result, I think you need nobody to tell you to run away from anywhere cigarette is being smoked. Keep your brain healthy and you will be better for it. If staying around smokers could reduce brain function when you’re still active, I wonder when aging comes in, the level of deterioration will be so high. Eating berries can’t even help mental declining with aging when you stay around smokers. Don’t follow friends that are smokers if you’re not a smoker yourself, even if you’re a smoker, there are several ways to quit smoking if you determine to do so.
