Ahead of the World AIDS Day celebration, Director-General of the National Agency for the Control of Aids (NACA), Professor John Idoko has appealed to religious leaders to partner with the agency in spreading the message of prevention of HIV/AIDS.

According to him, preaching the gospel on prevention of HIV/AIDS remains the most effective means of controlling new infections of HIV/AIDS.

Speaking in Abuja at a special thanksgiving and awareness creation service held at the central parish of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Professor Idoko stated that the collaboration of religious leaders will help in reducing the nations HIV/AIDS prevalence rate which currently stands at 4.0.


He announced that efforts are being made by the agency not just to halt the spread of HIV/AIDS but to achieve zero prevalence rate in the nearest future.

Also speaking at the occasion, the Area Pastor of the church, Pastor Emenike Chijioke pledged the support of the church to control the spread of HIV/AIDS.


He added that there is a need for the church to express more love towards persons already infected in order to help them live their lives without stigmatization.
